It’s free and simple: helps you not multitask

I was looking for a solution to keep track of daily goals and did some searching on Google. I came across Trello. It took me 5 seconds to sign up using my google account for the free plan.

After signing up, I created a board. I was pleased to see that there were three columns: (1) To Do, (2) Doing, (3) Done.

My First Trello Board

The design coincides with my philosophy of doing one thing at a time, separately, from start to finish without interruption. I’ve noticed that after smart phones were invented, most people, including myself in the past, operate in a very distracted way, interrupted every few minutes by their phone or social media, skipping between tasks without finishing, or thoughts wandering everywhere.

Now that I have embraced the philosophy of finishing one task at a time, blocking all distractions throughout the process, I appreciate how simple this three column card-moving-around system is.

>>TO DO

>>>>DOING

>>>>>>DONE

Basically, the board is designed so that I can place one card on a to-do list and put one or more item in the doing list. Personally, I only put one item on my personal board on the doing column; because, psychologically, it makes sure the car travels down one road without making lots of detours.

I can also see it being potentially useful for making a to-do list for larger Agile development projects, then moving the cards around as they become done.

Right now my small freelance team of five (including myself) are on my Slack channel, but as business picks up I may implement Trello for larger projects with multiple steps. For now, I’m just using them for my daily tasks.

Thanks for reading my rambling thoughts on my first impressions on Trello. Hope this helped someone out there. I am …

Very Truly Yours,

I apologize if my medium articles are all over the place, but I am writing more to organize my thoughts and for my own learning. Maybe one day I’ll organize it.
